Layne's Birthday

Layne had an awesome 4th Birthday!! He opened his presents from us right away in the morning. He got a rocket launcher and a book. After opening gifts he chose to donuts for breakfast, so Matt and Layne went to the local donut shop and got donuts. We played for a while before going to meet my parents for lunch.  Layne wanted to go to one of his favorite places, Burger King. After we got done eating we came home and he got to open his presents from Grandma and Papa. He got a bulldozer and a steamroller, a Remote Control Gravedigger (his favorite!), and some pool toys.

In the afternoon, Matt's parents came over as well as a few of Layne's friends and we had a small pool party. The kid's had a blast and were all worn out by the time everyone went home.

My Love of Shopping

I have always loved to shop. My mom says that I was "born to shop" and that when I was little she would take me shopping and I would calm right down when I was fussy. ( My love of shopping started very early lol!) I love shopping of any kind. I'm not picky!!

Some of my favorite places to shop for clothes for myself  are Old Navy, Gap, Kohls, Target, New York and Company, and Maurices. I have a few online and local boutiques that I really like. The Blue Door Boutique, AMAVO boutique and Modcloth.

When I'm shopping for things for our home, I love Gordmans, Hobby Lobby, and Pier One Imports. I also have found some really cute stuff on Etsy. I could spend hours and hours looking at the things on Etsy!!

For Layne's clothing, I love Old Navy and Gap Kids. I also love the brands Hurley, Carters, and Osh Gosh for Layne. I also find a lot of cute clothes at Target but our Target sells out of kids clothes fast so his size is usually really picked over. :(

I'm Such a Klutz

Last Thursday started out like a normal day but boy did it end far from that!! Thursday afternoon I ended up spraining my ankle while walking down my parents stairs. ( Don't ask how I managed to do that, I really have no clue either!!) My MIL ended up coming to get me to take me to the Dr.   I had to wait at the dr's office for a couple of hours but after finally being seen the Nurse Practitioner said I had just sprained my ankle really bad. Now I'm having to wear a walking boot for two weeks. :(

I thought I was going to die when I woke up on Friday morning because my ankle hurt worse then it had on Thursday. I ended up sleeping for half the day on Friday while my mom watched Layne. My ankle is doing a lot better now. I can't wait to be done wearing the walking boot because have to wear that and the temp outside being in the 100s is NO FUN!!

The only upside to all of this is that Matt has been very helpful and wait on me!! I'm so not used to that but I LIKE it!!

Chloe Gets A Haircut

Our dog Chloe was in desparate need of a haircut. Rather than spending money on having someone cut her hair, Matt decided to do it himself. We have had plenty of issues with taking her to different groomers. We have only had a couple of people that have actually cut her hair decently. Usually it turns out to be a disaster. She has had so many bad experiences at the groomers that she has freaked out the last couple of times we have taken her to get her haircut!! She did such a great job for Matt while he was cutting her hair. Layne was by her side to reassure her while getting her haircut. Such a sweet little boy!!

No, Matt did not leave her face like this. I just thought this was a funny picture because she looks like a Schnauzer in this one but she's not. lol

Dear Layne ( A Happy Birthday From Mommy and Daddy)

Dear Layne,

I can't believe that today you turn 4! I can still remember like it was yesterday waking up in the morning and finding out my water had just broken. Your Daddy and I were so excited that the day had finally come that we were going to meet you!! After 9.5 hours of labor, we got to meet you!! I was devasted that you, my sweetie, were having such a rough start to your beautiful life. My emotions were all over the place but I knew you were getting the best care from the nurses and doctors. During your short time in the NICU, we barely left your side. There was no way I was going to go home without you!! We were overjoyed that you only had to spend 5 days in the NICU!! Since bringing you home, 4 years ago, you have been the biggest blessing of our lives!!

Layne and Mommy in the NICU

Our Little Family

You are such a special part of our family and I just can't remember what life was like before you were born. I have enjoyed watching you grow and learn new things. Watching you grow from such a little baby to a very strongwilled, independant 4 year old has been the biggest joy of our lives. You spread laughter and happiness wherever you go with your great personality that you have. I can't wait to see what this next year will have instore for you!! You are such a blessing to our family and you are loved so much by so many people!!

Mommy and Daddy love you so much, Layne!! We hope that you have an amazing birthday with many many more in the future!!  We love you!!

Oh DVR, I love you!

Matt and I like to watch a lot of different things on tv. I don't know what we would do without our DVR. (In all honesty, If we didn't have one I don't think we would get much done. Especially Matt.)We usually are pretty busy doing lots of different stuff during the week that we don't have time to watch much tv till later at night. We watch a variety of shows ( most are ones that Matt got me hooked on. lol)

Our DVR'd shows include:

Swamp People- Our whole family loves this show! Earlier this year, we got to meet Trapper Joe and Tommy at a Car show. Layne was super excited and even got their autographs!!
Deadliest Catch- Oh how this show intrigues me!!
Duck Dynasty- Love the Robertson Family!! They have us in stitches all the time when we watch this! Uncle Si is awesome!!
The Mentalist-Love Simon Baker!
The Client List- Matt didn't want to watch this show at first but we both are hooked on this!! Such a good show!!
Pawn Stars
American Pickers
Snooki and Jwoww-I've watched Jersey Shore from the beginning and just had to see how this spinoff show would turn out. I have to say I will keep watching it just to see how dumb these two are but I think Pauly D's show was so much better!!
Awkward- This show is so much fun. I just wish it was longer than 30 minutes.
Longmire- From watching the previews of this show, I wasn't sure I would like it but it's really good!!
Criminal Minds- I love this show!! Love Garcia!! She is amazing!!

I used to LOVE watching CSI Miami and am so sad that it isn't on anymore. I'm really into the crime drama type shows. I also LOVED  ER when that was on but I haven't found a comparable show since then to watch. (I'm not a fan of Grey's Anatomy. I just never got into it). What shows do you watch?? Any Suggestions of Shows that I'm missing out on??

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I had been reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer. I finally finished that book and I LOVED it!! At first it took me a little while to get into the book because I was slightly confused by what was happening in it. After taking a break from the book for a couple of days, I decided to try reading it again. I couldn't put the book down because I was so intrigued by it!!
I loved how the book was written and that basically all of the minor characters in the book were actually real people that Lincoln knew.  The author did a great job with researching Lincoln and adding in the vampire parts with such ease that you would think it all happened. The only thing that I did not like about the book was the beginning. I found it very confusing and I still don't really understand what was happening at the very beginning of the book. The author never revisits the portion of the book again.
Now I really want to see the movie after finishing the book. I am just worried that, like usual, the movie won't do the book justice. Let's hope that this won't happen with this movie!!

4th of July Lake Fun

It is a tradition in Matt's family that everyone comes to the lake each year for a get together on my MIL's side of the family. We spent four days at the lake relaxing and having fun in the water!! Layne loved getting to play with all of his 2nd cousins.

Layne and one of his cousins driving his gator around the yard.

Layne and Daddy enjoying the lake. Sadly Layne lasted about 10 minutes like this and then proceeded to scream in the water for about 15 minutes.  Daddy decided to take Layne out of the boat and hold him. Layne thought Daddy was going to feed him to the "sharks" Oh the joys of an over dramatic 3 year old!

Jetsking, Tubing, and Swimming. Such a Fun way to spend the 4th!!

Layne driving his pedal excavator. He loves this thing!!

4th of July Parade

We had a great 4th of July this year!! Our 4th of July Celebration lasted 4 days this year!!
To Start out the festivities, we went to the parade in our little town. This is a big deal in our town. They have a bunch of activities every year on the 4th. We just went to the parade though. Layne loved watching the parade!! His favorite part was the Land o Lakes truck that was handing out ice cream!! Layne also got to see lots of old tractors in the parade. It was a hot morning to watch the parade as it was almost 90 degrees out at 10:30 in the morning!! I'm thankful that the parade wasn't in the afternoon or I don't think we would have gone!! After the parade, we went over to my parents house and had lunch before heading off to Lake Kampeska for more celebrating.

Layne, Grandma, Papa, and Matt waiting for the parade to start. Layne didn't sit down much during the parade, he was to busy looking around at all the stuff!!

Eating his ice cream that he got!!

10 Things About Little Ol' Me

I thought I would share some random things about myself. And trust me, they will be RANDOM. I'm kind of a random person.

1) Since Matt and I have been married (almost 5 years) we have owned 6 dogs, 3 snakes, 1 turtle, 1 raccoon, and a quaker parrot. Currently we just have two dogs and two snakes.

2) I HATE Snakes. This is kind of strange since we have two snakes but those are Matt's. I DO NOT do anything with them because they scare me.  And their cages are securely locked down. I wouldn't be able to sleep if they weren't!

3) I used to be terrified of swimming in lakes. I still don't like it. I don't like the idea of not being able to see the bottom and of swimming with fish. I'm totally fine with swimming in the ocean though. (Yes, Weird I know.)

4) I HATE socks. I only own about 5 pairs.

5) I've always been fascinated by anything that deals with Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal.
    (Yes, I'm a nerd!)
6) I can't sleep unless I'm covered up with both a sheet and a comforter. If Matt steals my covers I almost always wake up right away.

7) My favorite movie of all time is One Fine Day. Love George Clooney!

8) I can't make chocolate chip cookies. For some reason I always seem to screw them up!!

9) I could eat chips and salsa everyday!

10) I like visiting odd places...I've been to the SPAM musuem, seen the worlds largest ball of twine, and to Laura Ingalls Wilder's Birth Place just to name a few.

At the Carwash

What happens when you find old pvc pipe laying in the grass at the back of your property and a handyman for a husband who likes to build stuff?? Your child gets a carwash sprinkler!!
Matt constructed this using pvc pipe and fittings. He poked holes in the pipe and then rigged up a hose. Now Layne has his very own carwash to wash all his toys in. And boy does he love it!!

Washing his wagon in the carwash!

Catching drops of water on his tongue. Silly boy!!

(I'm slightly jealous that I didn't have one of these when I was little!)

Need a Tow?

Layne has a new obsession. He LOVES to tow things around with his trike. If I let him, he would tow anything he could get his hands on! He loves using Daddy's bungy cords as tow ropes so he can pull his stuff around the driveway.

Towing his wagon filled with toys and his bike hooked on the back. That was quite the setup he had going on!!

Posing for a quick picture.

I just love watching him play. He has such a good imagination. Some of the things he comes up with just amazes me. He is so stinkin' funny!! I love my little tow man!!

85th Birthday Party

Back in January, my Mom and I were discussing the fact that my Grandma would be turning 85 in June this year. We knew we wanted to do something special for her. She has always loved being surrounded by friends and family and loves socialize. The party was a success!! My Grandma enjoyed herself so much and loved that her whole family was together celebrating with her.

The food table. We had cake balls, cupcakes, fruit kebobs, fruit salsa with cinnamon pita chips, and chocolate chip cookie dough dip with graham crackers.

The photo/card table. We had lots of pictures of Grandma spread out on the tables too.

Busy, Busy!!

I've had every intention to blog but we have had so much going on that when I do have a moment to relax, I'm either catching up on tv, reading, or sleeping. Since the last time I blogged, we have done a lot of swimming, playing outside, had an 85th birthday party for my Grandma, spent time with cousins, went to the lake, etc. We have also had a few lows amongst all the fun stuff. Hopefully down the road I will be able to share but right now I'm not emotionally ready.

Pinterest: DIY Edition

I thought I would share some of my favorite Pinterest finds again. This time it's my DIY finds.
I love these curtains!! My mother is helping me make some just like this for my living room. I will also have something similar to this in my dining room as well. Can't wait to hang them up!!
I have almost all the supplies I need to make this. I think it's adorable and would be so cute hanging in my entryway. I love the idea of keeping track of all the places we have been. It would help Layne learn his states too!!

I have a wall similar to this in my kitchen and I believe that this is what I want to put on that wall. I would love an area that I
could keep mail, calendars, reminders, grocery lists, etc.
I think that this looks so much fun. Layne and his friends would just love this!!

Infertility Sucks

Since I was little, I dreamt of being a mother. I had always dreamt of having a huge family with five plus kids. As a grew older, the number change slightly but the dream stayed the same. About six months before Matt and I got married, I got baby fever bad. And I mean BAD. I wanted kids NOW!
As soon as my baby fever hit, I started paying attention to my body more. That's when I noticed something might not be right. I hadn't had my period yet. Was I pregnant?? I immediately bought a pregnancy test and took it. It was negative. I went to the doctor to see if something else could be wrong with me. The doctor dismissed it by saying I was just extremely stressed out from planning a wedding and the stress was causing me to not get my period. I believed that to be a logical answer and decided to not worry to much about it.
Months passed and I still never got my period. Our July wedding day came and went and by August, I had finally got my period after eight months!! I believed that my doctor had been right. I had been just too stressed to get my period. Matt and I decided to start trying for a baby. After three months of trying, we were pregnant!! We were both extremely excited to be starting a family!!
On July 15, 2008, we were blessed with our amazing son, Layne Matthew. I was in heaven!! I was so extremely happy to have been blessed with my son Layne. By the time Layne was about 5 months old, I began asking Matt when we should start trying for another child. (We both had agreed that we wanted our children to be close in age.) We decided to start trying again for our second child a month later. That was in January 2009.  Matt and I both thought it wouldn't take us very long to get pregnant again. We were both wrong.

Two months into trying for our 2nd child, I stopped having my period. I thought that I must be stressed again and tried everything to relax and ease my stress. For the next ten months I got my period three times. In December 2009, I made any appointment with an ob/gyn  to get checked out. Sadly I couldn't be seen until March 2010.

I was nervous to see my doctor the day of the appointment. I just knew that something else had to be wrong with me. It couldn't be stress that was causing me to not have my period.  I talked with my doctor and she decided to run some blood work tests to figure out what was going on. She didn't believe that stress was causing all of this.
After my blood work came back, we finally found the problem. My hormone levels were screwed up and that I had PCOS. I was so glad to finally know what was wrong with me. The doctor explained to me my options and started me on clomid. After taking clomid for six months and three dosage changes, nothing had happened yet. I wasn't pregnant. Back to the doctor's office I went. She decided to put me on Femara. My doctor told me that she had had good luck with Femara and that is how she had conceived all three of her kids. I took the Femara as for one month that's all it took. I was pregnant again!!

We told our parents over Christmas that Layne was going to be a big brother. Everyone was excited. Shortly after we had announced the news of our pregnancy, I started spotting. I immediately called me doctor because I was convinced something was wrong. The doctor saw me a couple days before my scheduled appointment and did an ultrasound. Everything was fine but the doctor told me to take it easy for a little while. The spotting eventually stopped. A week before I was to hit the 12 week mark, I started spotting again. This time it was a little different because it was heavier than the previous time. I immediately called the doctor again. The nurse assured me that nothing was wrong and that I could wait to be seen the following week at my scheduled appointment. I knew in the back of my mind that something was wrong. I ended up calling back and demanding that I be seen by someone in the doctors office. Matt and I headed straight for the doctor's office.

We sat in silence most of the ride there. I was so worried that something was wrong with my baby. The wait to see the doctor was excruitating. After waiting about 20 minutes to be seen, it was finally my turn. The doctor went over my symptoms with me and wanted to check for a heartbeat. She couldn't find it but assured me that that happens alot and sent me to have an ultrasound done. The ultrasound tech started the ultrasound but wouldn't tell me what was going on. I ended up flat out asking and that's when my worst fears were confirmed.

My baby didn't have a heartbeat.

We were devastated. I don't really remember much after that besides a lot of crying going on.  I couldn't believe that after waiting for so long that it was all done and over with. I had a rough miscarriage. I ended up in the ER because I was losing a lot of blood. Thankfully the doctors and nurses got it under control.

A couple of months later we started trying again with the same medicine. I ended up getting pregnant again but about three days after taking a pregnancy test I had another miscarriage. We decided to stop trying for a while. I was way to emotional and need some time to think about everything.

This past spring, we made the decision to start trying again. I'm hoping that things will work out better and that we can expand our family. Our struggle with infertility has really made me realize to not take anything for granted and that everything is a blessing.  I believe that everything that has happened has made me a stronger person. I just hope that our prayers will be answered and we can expand our family!!

There's a WHAT in my HOUSE!!

After our nice relaxing weekend at the lake, we spent Monday finishing up our sheet rock in the garage and doing other jobs around the house. We got a ton of stuff accomplished but still have so much to do before we have my Grandma's birthday open house at our home in less than two weeks!!
While we were getting settled in to watch some tv before bed, my worst nightmare came true.  A BAT started flying around our heads in the living room!!! I was so freaked out!! At first Matt was trying to tell me it was just a moth but than he started to freak out because he got a good look at it and it was no moth!

Matt ran out to the garage and got the closest thing he could find to try and hit it with...a rake. In the meantime I was hiding under my blanket on the couch screaming and crying because it kept circling by my head!! Once Matt got up the stairs I bolted downstairs as fast as a could to get away from the bat. I went in to check on Layne who had woke up now and was asking what was going on. I told him that there was a bat in the house and he just shrugs it off like no big deal. (I'm glad he wasn't as freaked out as I was!!)

After a few minutes I decided to slowly go back upstairs and see if Matt got the bat yet. Sadly He hadn't. Matt ended up calling Animal Control but they were not available so they sent a County Sheriff to help us out. While we waited for the Sheriff, Matt made me help him keep looking for the bat in our room. I was so freaked out that this bat was going to come out again I was shaking. ( I don't really think I was much help.) When the Sheriff arrived, they tore our bedroom apart trying to find it. They ended up finding the bat in our closet on one of the shelves. It was a good size bat too. The wingspan measured about 10 inches!!

I'm just so relieved that the bat is now out of the house!!! I'm so thankful the Sheriff came to our rescue and got the bat out!!

Memorial Day Weekend 2012

We had a nice relaxing Memorial Day weekend. We left for the lake on Friday night after Matt got off work. The lake is only about an hour and a half away from us so it's not a very long drive at all. Sadly the weather was not the nicest while we were up there. It was cold, rainy, and windy most of the time. We did a little shopping while we were there at our favorite farm store ( Runnings), went on a boat ride, and to the races. My highlights for the weekend is that I got to take a nap and I started reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer!!

Daddy showing Layne how the gator's box lifts up so he can dump things out of it.

Tater swimming in the cold lake water.

Retrieving his dummy.

Layne driving his gator.

Layne taking the race very seriously.

I Love...

I love my adorable son, Layne. I can't believe that in about a month and a half he will be FOUR already. Time should not be allowed to go this fast!

I love my husband. He can always make me laugh and smile and always keeps me on my toes with his crazy ideas!

I love shopping. I have always loved shopping. Purse shopping has to be my favorite!!

I love puppies. I'm a sucker for puppies. Their cuteness gets me everytime. Lab puppies have to be my favorite!

I love walking around barefoot outside. In the summer I rarely have shoes on when I'm outside at home.

I love rollercoasters. I have been known to ride Wild Thing at Valley Fair numerous times (even by myself) in one day!

I love chocolate. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, I love it all. (Except Mexican Chocolate, I'm not much of a fan of that.) Chocolate is almost an addiction for me!

What do you love?

Pinterest: Food Edition

I love Pinterest! One could say that I'm highly slightly addicted. One of my favorite things to pin on Pinterest is recipes. I love finding new things to cook for my family. I thought I would share some of the yummy recipes that I've made that have turned out amazing!!

These are yummy!! It's like a french frie, mashed potato and baked potato all rolled into one! I love switching up the seasoning too. Such an easy delicious recipe!
This is delicious!  I usually add Johsonville Hot Italian Sausage to it. Everyone loves it!!

This fruit salsa is to die for! I made it for Thanksgiving 2011 and it was AMAZING!! Layne would not eat it of course because he does not like strawberries. Everyone else that tried it loved it though!!

My Reading List

I love to read!! I just wish I had more time to do it!! Last year for  mother's day/ my birthday, Matt and Layne got me a Kindle. I absolutely love it!! While I mostly read only the books in the free section on the kindle, I've read some great ones in the past year.

Some of my favorites that I've read this year have been:

Three Girls and a Baby by Rachel Schurig- This is such a cute book. I can't wait to read the others that this author has written.

True North By Marie Force - I loved this book but it reminded me of a romance novel you'd pick up at a drug store or something.

One True Love by Barbara Freethy- I had never heard of Barbara Freethy until I found a couple of her books on Kindle. I loved them!! Such a good romance novel.

Ryan's Return by Barbara Freethy- This was another great book by Barbara Freethy. Loved it!!

The Help by Kathyrn Stockett- LOVED this book!! If you have not read this book, you must!! Now I need to see the movie!

I have a few books that I'm hoping to read soon. Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connely, The Pioneer Women by Ree Drummond, and Two Kisses for Maddie: A Memoir of Loss and Love by  Matt Logelin.

The next book I plan to read is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith. I can't wait to read it Something about historical nonfiction and sci fi stuff mixed together intrigues me! I will definately post about it when I'm done reading it.

Is there any other books I should have on my reading list??

Catepillar Fun

A couple of months ago, the local Catepillar dealership was having a Customer Appreciation breakfast to thank their customers. We went to this last year and we had a blast but we were not able to stay very long because Layne had swimming lessons. This year we didn't have anything going on so we definately were going!! Layne LOVES equipment. It doesn't matter if it is farm equipment or construction equipment, He loves it all!!

Daddy and Layne climbed in every piece of equipment they had out. They had a dozer, grader, roller, tractors, etc. Layne was so excited!!

Layne was trying to operate the forklift. He really wanted to drive it and even asked daddy to go find the key so he could start it! Silly boy!!

Catepillar had a huge breakfast with pancakes and eggs with ham. Layne loved eating breakfast in the shop with all the equipment. They handed out coloring books and foam dozers and tractors.

We all had a blast at Catepillar. We will defintely be going back next year!!
